Appeal for witnesses over cabbie beating

Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver suffered a broken skull during a fight outside Miles Market on Friday evening.

Winston Henry, 63, said he suffered two blows which shattered his left eye socket, cheek bone and jaw, requiring several rounds of surgery.

?The doctor said that was the worst he?s ever seen in all his years doing plastic surgery,? Mr. Henry said.

?There?s a hole behind the skin where the bone has been shattered.?

Mr. Henry, from Warwick, said the man who landed the blows fled the scene after the fight in a car full of children.

He described him as stocky, white, in his late 30s or early 40s with short hair. The incident happened at around 5.30 p.m.

?I am shocked this can happen in daylight outside Miles,? he said. ?I have never met this man before. I don?t know him.?

Police are appealing for witnesses to call Det. Con. Jason Ming on 295-0011.
