Appeal launched for donations for African flooding
The Bermuda Red Cross is appealing for donations to help people affected by Africa's worst flooding in 30 decades.
More than a million people in 22 countries in sub-Saharan Africa have been affected by the floods, including conflict-wracked Sudan and Uganda.
In total aide agencies predict that more than 1.5 million people have been affected by the floods and more than 300 have died as a result.
The AFP, Agence France-Presse, reported that 625,000 people in Sudan could be in need of emergency aid and that the flooding had worsened a cholera outbreak.
"At least 100,000 additional people have been directly affected by the latest wave of flooding in Sudan, which has destroyed homes, as well as food stocks and essential household supplies," the UN said in a statement.
The International Red Cross is hoping to raise a minimum of $10 million.
