Arrest made in store robbery
A 29-year-old Devonshire man was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with a masked raid on a grocery store which left the owner in hospital with head and arm injuries.
Store owner Joseph DaCosta, 31, was described as being in a stable condition on a general ward in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital last night.
Mr. DaCosta needed stitches to a head injury and needed surgery to his arm, which was broken in two places as he fought to fend off the attack from the raider, who was armed with a baseball bat.
He was attacked by the robber as he opened up the Happy Valley Mini Mart at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
The attacker, who was wearing a black and white mask, like the one used in the Scream movie, is believed to have ran off in panic without any cash after Mr. DaCosta's wife, Ana, screamed to neighbours for help. As of last night, the suspect was still helping Police with inquiries at Hamilton Police station and anyone with information about the incident should call officers on 295-0011.
