Belco customers hit by power cuts
Four thousand Belco customers found themselves without power at various times throughout the weekend as sub-tropical system Nicole battered the Island.
Squalls and gusts of wind, along with various missiles caught in the wind ? including a trampoline in Southampton which was blown into the lines ? were the cause of the scattered power outages on Saturday and Sunday. Belco crews who worked all night long had power restored to everyone by 3.30 p.m. on Monday.
A Belco spokeswoman said the timing of the repairs was based on the timing of the squalls and wind.
?One (squall) would come through and we would have to respond, then another would come through, and so on for two days.?
The spokeswoman said there were ten main line outages, with the first recorded at 10.23 a.m. on Saturday.
The last main line was restored by 11.10 on Sunday night.
Overnight Sunday, 110 people were without power in single or small outages scattered throughout the Island.
A crew worked all night Sunday and were refreshed by another crew on Monday morning.
