Auditor General Larry Dennis said last night his office was carrying out a special audit of the majority of Government capital projects - including the controversial $70 million Berkeley project.

He said he did not expect the special audit to be completed much before the New Year but added the results would be released next year.

"We are doing an audit on a whole bunch of capital projects - and Berkeley is one of them. A lot of them will be from the Ministry of Works and Engineering," said Mr. Dennis.

"We are not sure whether it will be included in my annual report or whether it will go to Parliament.

"It could be submitted as a special report, or as part of the annual report. I have not decided yet."

The Auditor General said the special capital projects audit was part of a group of comprehensive performance audits being carried out by his office, including other departments, such as social services.

Among them value for money and performance of the departments is scrutinised.

He said one senior auditor was handling the capital projects audit, and said he believed the scrutiny of Berkeley was only half way through.

"I don't know when the audit of the capital projects will be finished, but I don't think it will be complete much before the New Year."

Among the capital projects being audited are believed to be Government developments and refurbishments, such as school properties.

But he said it also involved projects outside of the Works and Engineering Ministry.

But when asked questions about the progress of the Berkeley site, Mr. Dennis said he did not have any details, but said he would be unable to reveal anything, anyway, until the report it released.
