Bravery awards seek local heroes
The Bermuda Bravery Award Association is once again looking for heroes. Members of the public have until September 27 to nominate courageous men, women or children who have risked their lives for others.
In the past, nominees have included lifeguards, Police officers or members of the public who prevented robberies.
Bermuda Bravery Awards chairman Mark Selley said entries should briefly detail the event which spurred the nomination in writing and list the people involved along with contact numbers.
He said the awards are presented annually for acts of bravery and are given to people not only in the service of saving lives, like Police Officers or members of the Bermuda Fire Service, but civilians as well.
Mr. Selley said anyone wishing to nominate a member of the public should contact him at 334-8448 or 293-3121 for more information. A panel sorts through the nominations once received and selected winners will receive cedar-framed awards at a Government House ceremony at the end of October.
Mr. Selley said every nomination will be investigated with the Police or Emergency Services to verify for authenticity.
