CADA campaign to focus on underage drinkers
An alcohol awareness group is stepping up its public profile in a bid to stamp out under-age drink sales.
The Centre for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention (CADA) also highlights drink-drive dangers through its new campaign.
In the latest in a string of public service announcements, the ?Did You Know?? series will air at peak times on local radio stations. It features reminders about the law on serving and buying booze, and getting behind the wheel when under the influence.
CADA chairman Anthony Santucci said: ?Our mission is to bring awareness of the laws pertaining to the consumption of alcohol, and to help change the behaviour of residents.?
The adverts state that it is illegal to sell or serve alcohol to someone already drunk. They also remind bar and nightclub owners that if they let under-18s into their venue they may be hit with a $10,000 fine.
The adverts will be aired until the end of the year.
BBSR to be renamed BIOS
The Bermuda Biological Station for Research is set to rename itself next week as the Bermuda Institute for Oceanographic Studies.
By changing its name the BBSR is expected to be better able to apply for research grants from around the world.
A full explanation for the name change is due to be given by president and director Dr. Anthony Knap and the chairman of the BBRS Board of Trustees Brian Duperreault when an official announcement is made next Tuesday.
The research station was established more than 100 years ago and was incorporated as a US non-profit organisation in 1926. Its current facility at Ferry Reach, St. George was opened in 1932 after the Bermuda Government and the Rockefeller Foundation provided facilities and money.
The station acts as a science and education platform for the study of marine ecosystems, ocean-atmospheric interactions and human impact on the oceans.
