Firefighters were called out to a car fire in Pembroke Parish last Thursday afternoon.Lieutenant Ronnie Aguiar said the Fire Department was called to Controversy Lane at 4.18 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived less than five minutes later, however, neighbours had already put out the flames with a garden hose.

Neighbours extinguish car fire

Firefighters were called out to a car fire in Pembroke Parish last Thursday afternoon.

Lieutenant Ronnie Aguiar said the Fire Department was called to Controversy Lane at 4.18 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived less than five minutes later, however, neighbours had already put out the flames with a garden hose.

The only part of the Jeep Laredo destroyed in the fire was the engine but part of the front left bumper, light and grill all melted. Lt. Aguiar said an investigation is underway to determine how the fire started.

Man arrested at Airport for drug importation

Police arrested a 33-year-old St. George?s man at Bermuda International Airport on Friday morning for suspicion of importing a controlled drug. Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Police urge residents to secure their homes

In an effort to curb breaking and entering offences, Police last week urged members of the public to carefully secure their homes and to report any suspicious activities in their areas.

Police cautioned the public to lock all windows and doors throughout their homes.

Police also urged the public to help others by reporting suspicious people or activities to the nearest Police station.

Thief has taste for jewellery and booze

A thirsty thief hit a Knapton Estates Road home on Wednesday, making off with several items of jewellery as well as a bottle of alcohol.

According to Police, the thief entered the Smith?s home sometime between 12.40 and 3.30 p.m. that day. Police are investigating the incident.
