Teen attacked with machete improving
The condition of a teenager seriously injured in a machete attack at the weekend continues to improve, medics said yesterday.
King Edward VII Memorial Hospital confirmed that the 19-year-old victim, named locally as Stefan Burgess, was in a stable condition on a general ward.
He had been fighting for his life after the bladed weapon attack when he was taken to intensive care with serious cuts to his head and body.
Police said the teenager was injured in the early hours of Sunday, near his home at Frog Lane, Devonshire.
Thief steals empty bag
A thief was in for a disappointment on Monday when he robbed a security officer of a bank bag on Queen Street ? the bag was empty.
The security guard had attempted to pick up the daily earnings from an area store when a man punched him in the face, grabbed the bag, jumped into a waiting vehicle and sped away.
The security guard was not injured and told Police the black bank bag contained five smaller bags, all of which were empty.
The suspect is described as brown skinned and between 5 foot 6 inches and 6 feet in height.
He was wearing a grey, short-sleeved shirt with a black logo on it and black pants at the time of the robbery. Police are investigating the incident and inquiries are underway
Hangbag snatched from female tourist
A female visitor struggled with a thief early Monday morning before losing her handbag to the man.
The woman was walking on Front Street near Number One shed when a man approached her and made comments which made her feel ?uneasy?.
The young woman decided to walk across the road and began to hail a taxi while trying to get the attention of two men near the Bermuda Bistro.
However, the brown-skinned male attempted to grab her purse and a struggle ensued. Eventually he pried the bag from the victim and ran up Burnaby Street.
One of the men who had been across the road ran after the suspect while the other tended to the 22-year-old victim. She was not injured during the incident but the thief escaped with $150 and personal items.
He is described as 6 feet tall, slim in build and he was wearing light blue jeans, a white T-shirt and white sneakers.
Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly the two men who came to the visitor?s assistance.
Burglar strikes guest property
A burglar stole a handbag from a Devonshire guest property yesterday while the victim slept.
The tourist said that sometime between 2 and 7 a.m. the unknown culprit gained entry to her room while she and her son were sleeping and stole a black handbag containing $250, a Blackberry cellular phone, a silver Minolta digital camera and personal items.
And a burglar also struck an Ord Road, Warwick residence during the day on Tuesday, taking a silver 27-inch Toshiba flat screen TV.
