A 21-year-old Devonshire woman was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment after driving her car into a palm tree.

Police attended the single vehicle road traffic collision at 3.50 a.m. on Sunday near the junction of Ten Pin Crescent and Middle Road in Warwick.

“It appears the car was travelling east on Middle Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a palm tree,” Police said yesterday.

A hospital spokeswoman said yesterday the driver had already been discharged from hospital.

The front end of the car suffered extensive damage in the crash.

Ferry for ceremony

A special ferry will take people from Hamilton to St. George's for the peppercorn ceremony tomorrow.

The ferry will leave Hamilton at 9.30 a.m. and get to the East End an hour later - 15 minutes before the ceremony in King's Square.

The ferry will leave St. George's at 1.30 p.m. Each trip will cost $8 but commuters can buy a one-day transportation pass for $12.

Weekend break-ins

Police said there were eight incidents of breaking and entering at the weekend - two each in Pembroke, Warwick, Southampton and Sandys.

One person was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

There were 15 damage-only road traffic collisions and ten road traffic incidents resulting in injury.

Jewellery stolen

Several items of jewellery and $350 in cash were stolen from a Crosswinds Drive, Sandys, home some time on Sunday night, Police said.

Inquiries into the incident are underway.
