Blind student's business plan earns praise at BizCamp

Over the past two weeks, Bermudian students have been learning the basics of what it takes to become an entrepreneur.

Matthew Johnson, who is blind, took home first place during the second week of the camp.

His business, 'Rogue Bay Barkery', was designed to give pet owners a chance to pamper their dogs with "high quality, fresh treats and gourmet delights".

During this year's BizCamp, students attended workshops and classes with key local and overseas professionals. All of the students put together a PowerPoint presentation.

"I found it very enjoyable and I learned a lot of good, new things about business plans. Plus, I'm really excited I got this visual software," Matthew said after winning first place.

At the end of the BizCamp's two-week run, Matthew and the 46 other students who attended the camp were invited to a reception at the XL Capital headquarters. During the reception they received certificates of completion from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), which is the basis of the BizCamp programme.

Matthew also presented his business plan in front of the parents and students gathered at XL.

Josue Paulos earned second place while Vanessa Paulos and Kryshae Furbert tied for third place.
