Boundaries Commission starts work again

Boundaries Commission chairman Sir Frank Blackman is ready for some "quick progress" as the Commission resumed meeting yesterday after a break for the Easter holidays.

But he could not say when the Commission will complete its work and issue its report on the number and boundaries of a revamped single seat electoral system.

"We are still seeing technical people and talking to them and making sure we have as up to date information as possible," he told The Royal Gazette.

"I must say that Government officials - I wouldn't say have been harassed by us, but we have been keeping at them".

Asked whether the final report will include all the written submissions, Sir Frank couldn't say. He added, however, that the "normal course" would be to attach an appendix showing who had made submissions.

While the Opposition United Bermuda Party has released its submission publicly, the ruling Progressive Labour Party has been criticised for not doing the same.

Sir Frank said that public release of a submission is an individual decision.
