Breaking News: Cabinet to meet to discuss recalling the House
Cabinet Ministers will meet tomorrow to discuss how to tackle the violence which marred the Easter weekend, including the possibility of reconvening the House of Assembly.
Premier Ewart Brown told The Royal Gazette today: “Cabinet will be meeting tomorrow to discuss this issue and will be looking at a number of options that will enable our Government to act swiftly and effectively to address it.”
Parliament is due to go back on May 7.
The weekend saw a 35-year-old father murdered in front of his children, three other people shot, including two teenagers, and a 19-year-old man stabbed.
Public Safety Minister David Burch told a press conference on Sunday that MPs could be recalled to the House of Assembly in response to the weekend’s violence, possibly to push through new laws to tackle such crimes.
“There’s discussions starting today,” said Sen. Burch. “You may find that Parliament may be recalled in order to implement them, but they haven’t advanced beyond that stage yet.”
