BREAKING NEWS: Five teens charged with murder

The family of murdered teen Kellon Hill leaves Magistrates Court this morning .

Four teenage boys and a girl appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of Kellon Hill.

There were emotional scenes at Magistrates’ Court as the youngsters appeared before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Zharrin Frankie Simmons, a 16-year-old girl, Kevin Andre Warner, 18, Gary Rupert Hollis, 15, Devon Vonzell Hairston, 17, and Kellan Jeaurreau Lewis, 16, are all charged with murder.

Mr. Hill, 18, was stabbed to death while attending a party at Elbow Beach late on Saturday night.

In addition to the murder charge, Simmons alone is accused of illegally possessing “a sharply pointed article” — believed to be a screwdriver. Warner is charged with possessing an offensive weapon in the form of a wooden cane.

Hollis and Hairston are separately accused of possessing offensive weapons in the form of crash helmets. Lewis is charged with possessing a knife with a blade in excess of three inches.

The defendants were not required to enter pleas, as the matter must be dealt with by a judge and jury at Supreme Court. Mr. Warner remanded all five into custody, ordering them back to court on August 28 for an administrative hearing.

Members of Mr. Hill’s family and relatives of the defendants packed the courtroom which was standing-room only during the hour-long hearing.

Around 60 people were initially present but the Police later ordered all but close family members out amid safety concerns.
