Breaking News: Shooting victim jailed for contempt
A teenage shooting victim has been jailed for two weeks after attempting to influence a juror in the trial of two men accused.
Dwayne Signor, 29, shot Shawn Williams, 18, in the back at the Royal Artillery Association Club in St. George on April 4.
Signor was convicted by a jury of wounding on Tuesday. Another man, Khyri Smith-Williams, was cleared of charges that he brought the gun to the club. The trial heard both defendants were friends of victim Williams at the time of the incident. When he gave evidence in the case on August 24 Williams told the jury he was unable to identify the culprits.
Today, Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons heard how Williams accosted a male juror in the bathroom after giving his evidence and asked him “Can you help us?”
This was an apparent reference to himself and his friend Mr. Smith-Williams. Williams denied doing anything wrong and denied having such a conversation but the judge found him guilty of contempt of court today and jailed him for 14 days.
