Breaking News: WITH VIDEO US Airways flight at centre of security scare to land in Bermuda tonight

Authorities search a plane on a closed runway at Philadelphia International Airport in Philadelphia, Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010. Transportation security officials removed passengers from a Bermuda-bound flight Thursday after reports that someone was helping to load the plane without a security badge.

A US Airways flight to Bermuda delayed in Philadelphia after a security scare is due to land at 6pm, it emerged this afternoon.

This morning security officials searched the Bermuda-bound plane after reports someone without a security badge helped load it.

More than 100 passengers were taken off US Airways flight 1070 shortly before noon today following concerns raised by the airline. Authorities swept the aircraft for dangerous items, The Associated Press reported.

Security dogs were moved from bag to bag as part of an extensive search of luggage.

According to earlier reports, US Airways employees were loading the Airbus 319 with a third man in a uniform but without identification.

Passenger Amanda Benner told the Associated Press that she and the other 101 travellers were asked to return to the terminal at Philadelphia International Airport.

"We're in the airport now. They took us off," she said. "They told us there was a [Transport Security Administration] security breach and we've had to leave everything on the plane and get off. They're re-screening everything on the plane."

There were 12 TSA officers in the area, in addition to Philadelphia Police and "all kinds of guys in suits," she said. "They're very stern and serious."

This evening Aaron Adderley, General Manager of the Department of Airport Operations, said: “We're closely monitoring the situation in Philadelphia and have been advised by US Airways that flight 1070 is expected to arrive in Bermuda at 6 p.m., and with a quick turnaround, it will depart at 6.35 p.m. for its return to Philadelphia.

"Passengers and those meeting the flight in Bermuda are asked to contact the airline for any further updates."
