BUEI to project images on roof

The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) has sought final Planning approval to project images of whales, dolphins, sharks and shells onto its roof.

However, the proposed images ? visible by passing motorists on East Broadway at night on the roof over the BUEI front entrance at No. 40, Crow Lane, Pembroke ? are not considered to be billboards, the Department of Planning said.

?I have now received the opinion of the Attorney General?s Chambers in regard to the proposal?s compliance with the Advertising Regulations Act 1911,? Planner Anna Eatherley told BUEI in a letter contained in the application?s file on February 24. ?I have been advised that the images would not be considered to be of an educational nature and with no advertising intent and therefore fall outside the Act.?

A weather-tight outdoor ellipsoidal zoom spotlight would be used to project the larger than life sharks and other sealife, if the application proves successful, BUEI said in its application.

BUEI director Wendy Tucker replied on March 24 that she looked forward to receiving final Planning approval.
