Burns baby airlifted

The infant who suffered severe burns in an incident in St. David's on Thursday has been airlifted to a Canadian Hospital.

The one-year-old was being treated for water burns to the head and body. The girlfriend of the child's father is in Police custody assisting with inquiries.

The 32-year-old St. David's woman has not been arrested nor have any charges been laid.

Police are not looking for any other suspects in relation to this matter.

The child was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at 3p.m. on Thursday and was in a serious but stable condition before being transferred to a Canadian hospital, said a spokeswoman.

Police were alerted "due to the injuries being consistent with something untoward having taken place," said a force spokesman.
