THE Sounds of Philadelphia Celebrity Cruise and Revival Concert Series will set sail from Philadelphia to Bermuda on July 29 to celebrate 35 years of musical history. The smooth sounds of the Delfonics, Billy Paul (pictured), the legendary Blue Notes, the Original Orlons, Major Harris and Phyllies Intruders are just the beginning of a long list of Philadelphia R&B pioneers who will entertain guests on board the once-in-a-lifetime cruise which is set to return to Philadelphia on August 4.
A pre-sail itinerary includes an Ambassadors’ Ball and tribute to Philadelphia’s disc jockeys and club owners, considered the unsung heroes of the Sounds of Philadelphia.
Organiser of the event, Dr. Jacqueline Swift is the founder and executive director of the Wounded Healer, Inc. Transformation and Distribution Centre, and founder and president of the Black Music Ambassadors to the Sounds of Philadelphia.
The cruise will benefit Project KIDS, which provides positive peer and family activities, community education, job training programmes and special events designed to provide positive alternatives to crime and lower the disproportionate involvement of minorities in the juvenile system in the United States.
