Cadet resigns over fine

A Police cadet has resigned after it emerged he had been caught twice for driving while banned and there was a warrant out for him for an unpaid $1,000 fine.

The recruit was picked up three days into the course which began this month and taken to Hamilton Police station.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "No one was asked to leave the recruitment foundation course.

"We received an officer's resignation so indeed no one was fired or let go. He exercised his right to resign."

Mr. Caines refused to comment further about the matter.

He said: "As a policy we don't get involved with the specifics of an officer's or recruit's resignation."
