Channel swaps cut news
Channel swapping left some viewers with distorted programmes and cut off a news broadcast yesterday.
ZBM and VSB representatives metTelecommunications inspectors yesterday to discuss their objections to Cablevision moving local channels on the cable system.
Cablevision changed local channels, 7, 9 and 11, which are normally 2, 3 and 4 on the cable system, to the corresponding channels 7, 9 and 11 on the cable system.
This caused a time lapse between the television receiving RF airway signals and the TV receiving cable signals, said ZBM operations manager and chief engineer Delano Ingham.
The television set thinks it is receiving two signals and since televisions can not discriminate which channel to show, they try to show both, he said.
Mr. Ingham said ZBM informed the inspectors and a temporary solution was found while Cablevision continues their upgrades. The channels have been moved back to their original slots.
