Club praises Police following drugs raid
One of the clubs involved in Police checks over the Cup Match weekend has commended the Service for their "vigilant activity".
And Management from Club Azure yesterday made special mention of Chief Inspector Stuart Crockwell for the way in which he and his team of officers handled the situation in which plant material was seized from a patron of the club last Saturday night.
In a statement made yesterday, management said that contracted security personnel are hired for special events when the facility is rented to independent promoters and do their best to ensure that no illicit substances are used or consumed within their premises.
The statement said: "Management does not condone or tolerate the use of such substances on our premises and totally support the Commissioner and the Bermuda Police Service in their efforts to enforce the law to the fullest degree to eradicate illegal behaviour in licensed entertainment establishments."
Management also apologised to patrons at the club who were not involved in any illicit activity as they said it only involved a few young and irresponsible individuals who showed little respect for their club and even less for themselves.
Club Azure is one of the few establishments that is available to independent promoters although management questioned the future of such events as they said "the business risks are not worth the headaches albeit that only a few spoil it for the rest".
They said they would regret not having events for the younger audience that are put on by independent promoters and said most young adults in the community were good people with a positive attitude and there was no reason why they should be subjected to the undesirable acts of the irresponsible few.
"That is why the management of Club Azure supports the actions and endeavours of the Police service to maintain law and order within our community.
"Moreover, if it means that a Police presence is required when these types of events are held at Azure, we extend an open invitation and will offer our assistance in any way that we can to support the continued efforts of the Bermuda Police Service to help ensure that our premises are free of any future attempt by individuals to engage in undesirable activity.''
