Cruise ship worker accused of sex assault

A male cruise ship worker accused of sexually assaulting his female co-worker will face trial in Bermuda.

The incident allegedly took place on May 19 in Pembroke.

The accused, represented by lawyer Elizabeth Christopher, pleaded not guilty to the sex assault charge on May 23 in Magistrates? Court.

He cannot be named for legal reasons.

A preliminary inquiry date for the matter has been set for June 8.

Guinness drinker gets a lucky break

A 71-year-old Pembroke man received an absolute discharge in Magistrates? Court yesterday after being caught downing a bottle of Guinness in City Hall car park.

The Court heard that Police spotted George (Sammy) Burrows of Fenton Drive drinking from a bottle of Guinness which was inside a brown paper bag last Friday.

Officers arrested and cautioned Burrows, who was taken to Hamilton Police where he was remanded into custody.

Burrows pleaded guilty to drinking in public but was given a discharge by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

A costly night on the town

A 27-year-old man who pleaded guilty yesterday to trespassing told the court that he had been intoxicated and beaten up and did not know what had happened to him.

The court heard that Police found Dimitri Robinson, of Kyber Pass, Warwick, in the cabin of a boat which was dry-docked at A&P Marine on Friday after being alerted by an employee of the boatyard.

Robinson was arrested and was taken by officers to Hamilton Police Station.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Robinson if had anything to say in regard to the incident.

?I was intoxicated and had been beaten up,? Robinson replied.

Mr. Warner asked him who had beaten him but Robinson said he didn?t know because he was intoxicated at the time.

Robinson said that, after finishing work, he had a few alcoholic beverages but after that, he didn?t know what had happened to him.

Robinson was fined $2,000 on the trespassing charge.

He asked Mr. Warner for some time to pay the fine.

Mr. Warner ordered that Robinson obtain counselling and gave him until June 30 to pay the fine.

Two men plead guilty to drunk driving

Two men pleaded guilty last Friday to driving while impaired by alcohol.

Edward Smith, 38, of Spouse Lane in Pembroke was involved in a single-vehicle collision on May 10 at 12:05 a.m., the court heard.

When Police attended the scene, Smith appeared to have glazed eyes and smelled of alcohol. Police obtained a breath sample which showed that Smith had 126 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

In a separate incident, Police stopped William Jason Darrell, 23, on Burnaby Street in Pembroke.

Police said Darrell was unsteady on his feet and smelled of intoxicants. A breath sample was obtained and tested.

Darrell, of Fair Haven Lane, Sandys, was found to have 155 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave both men $1,000 fines for the offence and disqualified them from driving for 12 months.

Man charged with breaking and entering

A 44-year-old Warwick man appeared in Magistrates? Court last week to face a charge of breaking and entering with the intent to steal on May 17.

Dean O?Brien did not have to enter a plea as the charge is indictable and will be heard in the Supreme Court.

When Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered that he be fingerprinted, O?Brien strongly protested saying the Police had never questioned him.

?They didn?t come and see me once,? he said. ?They never said nothing to me.?

Mr. Warner then informed him: ?The court can order your fingerprints to be taken.?

O?Brien was denied bail and remanded in custody until his next court appearance on June 9.

Drunk driver taken off the road for a year

A 30-year Pembroke man pleaded guilty in Magistrates? Court last week to driving while impaired.

On April 29, Police in a marked car observed Santos Garcia riding a red Honda motorcycle on Deepdale Drive, the court heard.

When officers stopped Garcia, a Spanish-speaking man, they observed his eyes were glazed and he was unsteady on his feet when he put the bike on the stand.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 dollars and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for the next 12 months.

Man must pay $2,715 in traffic fines

A 24-year-old man appeared in court on Friday to face a slew of traffic offences which earned him over $2,500 in fines.

Paul Kyle of Cambridge Road, Sandys, pleaded guilty to a number of traffic offences dating back to January of this year.

The offences included disobeying traffic signs, speeding and driving without a licence and the fines totalled $2,715.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave Kyle ?one last chance? and ordered that he pay $1,500 immediately but gave him an additional month to pay the remaining $1,215.

Man denies breaking into church

A 40-year-old man denied breaking into Christ Church in Devonshire with the intent to steal on February 10.

Dion Burgess, of East Park Drive, Devonshire, appeared in Magistrates? Court before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner last Thursday.

Mr. Warner ordered Burgess to have his fingerprints taken and the matter was adjourned until June 8.

Burgess was bailed for $2,000 with one surety.

Pair deny stealing Honda Scoopy

Two Warwick men will stand trial in August after allegedly stealing a motorbike worth $2,700.

David Burchall, 31, and Alexander Ming, 48, both pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft when they appeared in Magistrates? Court last Wednesday.

The bike, a black Honda Scoopy, was stolen on May 22 in Pembroke.

Burchall, of Horseshoe Road, and Ming, of Ord Road, were released on $2,000 bail each.

Their trial is set for the August 11.
