Cricketer convicted of assault
A Police officer and Bermuda national cricketer was found guilty in Magistrates? Court yesterday of punching a woman in the face.
Barbados born P.c. Dennis Archer was convicted of assault occasioning bodily harm to Jacqueline Jackson on July 18, 2003.
Archer had been tried in Magistrates? Court in October. Yesterday Magistrate Will Francis delivered his guilty verdict and fixed sentencing for December 7.understands the assault occurred after Archer returned to his Somerset home at around 6 a.m. on July 18.
When Ms Jackson asked Archer where he had been that night, she followed him around the house, poking him in the shoulder.
She continued to ask him where he had been and Archer punched her in the face.
It is understood that Archer never disputed in court that he punched Ms Jackson, but said that he had been provoked.
The Crown argued a poke in the shoulder was not enough to provoke a punch in the face. And Ms Jackson claimed she only poked him in the shoulder twice because he was ignoring her.
She also said that he gripped her by the hand and pulled back her finger.
Ms Jackson did not report the domestic disturbance to the Police straight away, but waited until she visited a doctor to treat her injuries.
It is also understood that a photo of Ms Jackson?s eye that was shown in court revealed a very badly bruised eye.
The Crown counsel was Shakira Dill and Archer?s lawyer was Mark Pettingill.
In September, Archer, an all-rounder, played for Bermuda against the West Indies.
Archer also plays for Western Stars after moving from Police at the start of this season.
