Dame Lois misses court date

Former Attorney General Dame Lois Browne-Evans was due to appear in court yesterday morning to stand trial for driving without due care.

Her trial was delayed, however, as the PLP party stalwart gave notice to the courts she was overseas awaiting the birth of a grandchild.

Because of the nature of her trip, lawyers were uncertain as to when exactly Dame Lois would be returning to the Island. Magistrate Will Francis put the matter down for mention to set a new trial date on February 3, in the hope she will have returned to the Island by then

Lawyer Kae Thomas represented Dame Lois for lawyer Elizabeth Christopher, who was involved in the Stanley Lee murder trial in the Supreme Court at the time, while Anthony Blackman represented the Crown.
