Death threat: Police stay tight-lipped

POLICE are keeping tight-lipped about details of a seven-month-long investigation into a supposed death threat against Premier Ewart Brown, writes Gareth Finighan.

In the run-up to last December's General Election, postal workers at the airport sorting office intercepted a package addressed to Dr. Brown which contained a bullet and a threatening letter.

Although the Progressive Labour Party brushed off the incident at the time as "just another political dirty trick by our political opponents", Public Safety Minister David Burch confirmed that security around the Premier was to be stepped up and a police investigation into the incident was also launched.

However, more than seven months on, detectives are refusing to say if they have made any progress in their inquiries.

The Mid-Ocean News has repeatedly asked police for updates on the probe and for details relating to the number of man hours spent on the inquiry, the nature of any leads, if forensics experts have been drafted in, and whether or not the threat is still being taken seriously.

A police spokesman responded by saying: "No comment."
