Driver banned from road after being caught over the limit

A man caught driving at more than double the legal alcohol limit was banned from the road on Thursday. Michael Robinson, of Oleander Hill, Smiths, was stopped by Police at 12.34 a.m. on July 1 after they noticed him driving at a slow rate of speed along South Road in that parish.

Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney told Magistrates? Court Robinson, 60, was observed swerving over the yellow central line. Officers who stopped him noted that he was unsteady on his feet with bloodshot eyes.

Tests revealed he had 180 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, when the legal limit is 80. Robinson, who pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, said: ? I?m sorry to have wasted the court?s time and it certainly will not happen again.?

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined him $800 and banned him from driving for a year.
