East End residents to sound off tonight

Residents of St. George's will have the chance to air their views tonight on a host of issues, ranging from the future of policing in the Old Town to waterfront development.

St. George's Mayor Henry Hayward called the public meeting for Penno's Wharf at 7 p.m. The meeting is being held to update the public and receive feedback on a variety of matters concerning the town.

Topics to be adressed include the proposed new boardwalk and the imminent move of East End Police headquarters to Southside, in St. David's.

Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith will attend the meeting to answer public concerns regarding the controversial move.

Corporation Secretary Nancy Hooper said: "The main purpose of the meeting is an update on the Heritage Plan."

Other topics on the agenda include a report from the St. George's Foundation on street development, a discussion on the new ferry dock location, the future of Storekeeper's Cottage on Ordnance Island and the proposed waterfront promenade.
