Eight charged over Wellington Oval violence
Magistrates Court was cleared to members of the public yesterday when eight men appeared charged in connection with last month's violence at Wellington Oval.
The court was packed with Police and Prison guards for the morning session of Plea Court. Relatives of the defendants were kept out.
John Everest Trott, 26, from Red Coat Lane, St. George's, was remanded in custody again to reappear on May 7 for a short form preliminary inquiry.
Trott denies causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Kiwon Butterfield and possession of a six-foot piece of wood as a weapon.
Jachai Morris, 24, of Sylvan Dell Road, Paget, and John Stephen Glasgow, 22, of Spring Hill, Warwick, were also remanded again to appear on May 21.
Both are charged with attempting to cause the death of Tarik Foster. Morris was charged with possession of a knife, and Glasgow with possession of a machete, and both with going to a public place armed "in a manner to cause terror".
Ki-Roy Kinta Butterfield, 27, of Cherry Hill Park, Paget, was remanded to appear on June 7 for a long form preliminary inquiry.
Butterfield is charged with the attempted murder of Tarik Foster, the attempted wounding of Kuma Smith, twice attempting to wound John Everest Trott, possession of a knife, and having the knife in a public place "in a manner to cause terror".
Jamie Ford, Wolde Trott, Kijah Russell Butterfield, and Kavon Earlston Smith, were remanded in custody again to face trial on May 12.
Smith, 25, of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, has pleaded guilty to possession of a knife, but not guilty to having the knife in a manner to cause terror.
Butterfield, 21, of Paget, denies possession of a knife and a machete, entering a public place with those weapons without lawful occasion in a manner to cause terror, and the unlawful assault of Antoine Anderson.
Ford, 23, of Warwick, is charged with assaulting Antoine Anderson, possession of a machete, and having it in a public place without lawful reason in a manner to cause terror.
Wolde Trott, 21, of Tribe Road, Paget, has pleaded guilty to possession of a machete, but not guilty to having the machete in a public place to cause terror.
Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves turned down bail applications from Elizabeth Christopher for Kijah Butterfield and Leo Mills for Wolde Trott and Smith.
