Fabian to be retired
Bermudians can rest assured that Hurricane Fabian will never come back to haunt them.
Bermuda Weather Service will be recommending that the name Fabian be dropped from the rotating list used to name hurricanes.
Retiring names is traditional when hurricanes cause major damage, BWS director Roger Williams said yesterday, and Bermuda will ask that Fabian is sent to the history books.
The list of names given to major storms - beginning in alphabetical order and alternating between girls and boys - rotates every six years.
Mr. Williams said Bermuda would make the the request at the next regional hurricane meeting in Miami in the spring.
He is also asking Bermudians to come up with an alternative male name beginning with F, which can be English or Spanish.
