The Fire Service is urging the public to take care with candles, kerosene and propane lanterns during outages.

Safety tips:

Never leave these devices unattended;

Keep flames away from combustible objects, out of reach of children and away from areas where they can be knocked over by a pet;

Ensure all candles are out before sleeping.

Generator advice:

Ensure it is operated in a well ventilated area and never inside the house; Do not overload your generator, refer to the owner's manual to determine maximum wattage; Never refuel your generator while it is running; Never store gasoline inside your home or in an area where open flames are present
