Gibbings family welcomes arrest
The father of murder victim Marcus Gibbings last night welcomed news that an arrest had been made in the case.
Richard Gibbings said Police contacted him last Thursday to tell him about the development.
Speaking from his home in Trinidad, Mr. Gibbings said he expected a call from Police by today with an update on the situation.
Welcoming news of the arrest, he said: ?I think they (Bermuda Police) are doing OK. I?m glad there?s an arrest.?
Police are remaining tight-lipped about the arrest, confirmed to the media on Friday, and have released few details about the suspect in custody.
Mr. Gibbings, who was initially critical of the investigation but has since said he is more satisfied with its progress, said he was not aware of the suspects? gender or age.
?The Police called me last week and told me that they had arrested someone,? he said. ?I do not know if that person has been charged.?
He said he was glad the number of officers working on the case had doubled. ?I was pleased that they increased the workforce. I think that something more positive is being done.?
A Police spokesman could not confirm whether the suspect was still in custody yesterday, and confirmed there was no further update in the investigation.
Trinidadian Marcus Gibbings, 32, was found stabbed to death at a Devonshire apartment on October 26.
A total of 14 detectives are currently working on the case under the command of Acting Inspectors Terry Maxwell and Robert Cardwell, Police have said.
Anyone with information about the murder should call the Serious Crime Unit on 299 4315, 299 4239 or confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 1800 623 8477.
