Gibbings murder: Woman released without charge
A woman arrested in connection with the murder of Marcus Gibbings has been released from custody on bail without charge.
Trinidadian Mr. Gibbings, 32, was found stabbed to death at a Devonshire apartment on October 26.
Police have refused to state whether the person bailed is male or female, although The Royal Gazette understands from sources that it is a woman.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines refused to state yesterday when the suspect was released from custody, but confirmed no-one had been charged in connection with Mr. Gibbings' death.
The victim's father, Richard Gibbings, has previously spoken of his distress at a lack of information on the progress of the investigation. He wrote to the Government in his home country of Trinidad earlier this month, urging them to press the Bermuda authorities for action.
When contacted by The Royal Gazette yesterday with news that a suspect had been bailed, Mr. Gibbings said this was the first he had heard of it.
"To be honest with you, I'm still in the dark," he said.
He explained that since receiving a call on Friday or Saturday from a female officer appointed to liaise with him, he had not heard anything. His attempts to reach her by phone yesterday failed.
"She promised to call me, and I have not heard anything from her. I have had no call telling me they have released (a person) on bail. It's difficult. It's really kind of disheartening to hear this from someone else," he said.
He added: "I don't want to upset anyone, but I need to know what's happening."
Responding to this, spokesman Mr. Caines said: "Bermuda Police Service is carrying out an active investigation and are committed to keeping the family updated on every development as long as that information does not impact on us conducting a thorough investigation. We would ask Mr. Gibbings to direct his questions and comments to the officers."
