Girlguiding Bermuda's annual fair is great fun for the kids
PARENTS looking for something fun to do with their children this weekend need look no further as Girlguiding Bermuda is holding its annual fundraising fair tomorrow at St. Paul's Christian Education Centre in Paget.
This year the funds raised will go towards building disabled access to the guide hut at the Bermuda Guiding headquarters.
The funds will also go towards sending eight Bermudian guides to be present at the Girlguiding Centennial celebrations in England in 2010.
Girlguiding Bermuda, formerly the Bermuda Girl Guide Association, was founded in 1921 and is one of the nine branch associations of Girlguiding UK. Girlguiding UK was started in 1910 by Agnes Baden-Powell after she was asked by her brother to create an organisation for girls that would be similar to his Boy Scouts movement.
The fair will be opened at 10 a.m. by Lady Gozney, wife of Governor Sir Richard Gozney. Hamilton Town Crier Ed Christopher will also be there to open the event.
Boy Scouts will also be on hand, washing cars and running a game to raise funds for their own operational costs.
There will be fair foods available which include hamburgers, hot dogs, cupcakes, cookies, banana bread, lemon cake, taffy and glass candy.
One of the biggest draws to the fair is the raffle which has over 30 prizes being given out this year. Prizes include a new Blackberry Pearl, a $1,000 travel voucher and designer watches.
Denise Woodhouse, Island Commissioner for Girlguiding Bermuda, said the past two fall fundraisers had been a huge success and added: "Girlguiding is an excellent way for our youth to build character and I am grateful to the team who has made a great effort to make this event happen."
The Girlguide Fall fundraiser is at St. Paul's Christian Education Centre in Paget tomorrow from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
