Go hogge wild!
Artists - amateur and professional alike - are invited to take part in a special art project to paint 50 life size fibreglass moulding of hogs intended for the Bermuda Botanical Gardens.
Modelled after similar art campaigns in the US and Europe, the Masterworks Foundation is coordinating the project in which residents must submit original designs to the “Hogge Wild Project”.
First left on Bermuda for food by Spanish sailors beginning as early as 1503, hogs have been used as a symbol of Bermuda from its earliest days of English settlement.
Application entries must be presented to Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens by October 31, and successful candidates are to be chosen by people from the arts and cultural community and Hogg Wild Project staff.
Successful Hogge Wild pieces will be chosen for their artistic merit, creativity and originality, the capability of the artist to produce a large scale outdoor work and compliance to the entry requirements which include;
Entry limited to Bermuda residents (a Bermuda address is considered proof of residency), no political or religious messages or direct advertising including logos.
Launched yesterday, Hogge Wild offers the four foot long fibreglass hogs as a canvas. The hogs arrive on the Island later this month.
