Guest house featured in American magazine

A major American magazine for readers who enjoy coastal living and taking vacations beside the sea has featured Bermuda in a six-page spread.

The latest edition of Coastal Living has been written from the perspective of a stay at the Salt Kettle House guest house in Paget and has glowing praise of guest house owner Hazel Lowe and the hospitality and advice she gives to guests so that they know where to go and what to see when they come to the Island. The insider?s guide to the Island is illustrated with pictures of Horseshoe Bay Beach, Hamilton Harbour, the guest house and some general shots of Bermuda. Guest house owner Mrs. Lowe said she was delighted to have featured so prominently in the June edition of the glossy magazine and was glad to see a positive article that will help to promote the Island as a holiday destination.

She said: ?It is a lovely article and I?ve had quite a few calls from people. The first I heard about it was when an ex-guest of mine called and asked if I knew what I was in.? Mrs. Lowe opened the guest house in 1970 with her late husband and has continued to run the establishment, something she plans to do for the rest of her life. ?I have surprises every day and guests staying from the US, Canada and Europe,? she said.

She remembers the magazine photographer who stayed at her guest house and took the pictures for the article, which is promoted on the front cover of the the publication.

Readers of Coastal Living, which is published ten times per year, are informed through the article about some of the history of the Island as well as recommendations to eat at a number of restaurants in Hamilton and at Elbow Beach, a number of tourist spots and that the Island has an air of polite reserve that seems eminently British.

And among Mrs. Lowe?s visitor tips, as reported in the magazine article, are to pay a visit to The Book Cellar in St. George?s, the Barracuda Grill in Hamilton and Gibbs Hill Lighthouse.

The article also states that the Salt Kettle House guest house has a 90 percent return rate for visitors coming back to stay again and again.
