Heinekens don?t mix with driving

Jesse DeCouto was fined $1,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for a year after he admitted impaired driving.

DeCouto, 28, of Ardsheal Drive, was stopped by Police on Trimingham Hill on July 21 after leaving a local establishment.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard the motorcycle DeCouto was riding drifted across the yellow line. Police noticed he appeared unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glazed and he smelled of intoxicants.

He refused to give a breath sample and when asked if he had been drinking he replied: ?I had three or four Heinekens.?

Asked if he had anything to say, DeCouto replied: ?I apologise.?

Mr. Warner told DeCouto to pay a $1,000 fine or spend three months in prison. DeCouto was also disqualified from driving all vehicles for 12 months.

Clifton Burt, 40, of Crawl Hill, Devonshire was fined $2,000 and disqualified from driving from all vehicles for 24 months after pleading guilty to two charges of driving while impaired. Burt was stopped by Police on June 21 on Middle Road on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle while impaired.

After a breath sample was taken Burt was found to have 179 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millitres of blood.

In a separate matter Burt was charged with driving while impaired after Police stopped him on June 18 when he was riding a motorcycle on Parson?s Road and was unable to provide a breath sample. Mr. Warner fined Burt $1000 for each charge and was disqualified from driving all vehicles for 24 months or spend six months in prison. Burt has until August 26 to pay the fine.

A man denied trying to give cannabis to a Westgate prisoner.

Peter Charles O?Neil, 21, of Malabar Close, Sandys also pleaded not guilty to possessing cannabis.

The two charges relate to an incident on December 25, 2004, Magistrates? Court heard.

Senior Magistrate Archibald adjourned the matter until September 28 and released O?Neil on $2,000 bail.
