Hotel upgrades for 2004

Upgrades and new hotel developments, according to the Ministry of Tourism, are:FAIRMONT SOUTHAMPTON: Re-opening April 15 after spending more than $40 million on repairs with full inventory of 593 rooms. 480 out of 593 rooms refurbished following severe water damage and 83,000 square feet of roof replaced. All major conference areas, bars, pool and gardens also damaged, as was the Whaler Inn, dive shop and beachside cabana.

Upgrades and new hotel developments, according to the Ministry of Tourism, are:

PINK BEACH CLUB: Re-opened March 15 after repairing 40 out of 90 rooms. Awaiting planning approval for a further 16 new junior suites to be built at the end of the year. 60 rooms in inventory now with more coming on every day, according to Tourism.

SONESTA BEACH RESORT: Re-opening May 15 with 100 rooms, increasing to 200 in six weeks, progressing to 294 rooms later. Applied for planning permission to knock down west wing and been given permission to build water theme park.

COCO REEF RESORT: Former Stonington Beach due to re-open May 1 with 66 rooms, plus new lobby, bistro restaurant, beach restaurant, and refurbishment of all rooms. Planning application for 31 new two-bedroom guest suites.

SPA AT LANTANA: According to Ms Webb phase one of the closed resort will open by the end of summer with with the Spa centre and 22 units. Hotel Concession Act tax breaks have been approved but the sale to developer Don Burkett has not been completed.

GROTTO BAY BEACH: Planning 77 new guest suites for late 2005.

BELMONT HILLS HOTEL: Currently under construction but planning 25 golf villas and 25 hotel rooms by late 2005.

ROYAL PALMS HOTEL: Applied for seven new guest units summer of 2005.

FORMER CLUB MED: Quorum Group has exclusivity deal with Government until May to come up with plan. Hoping to build cultural centre, hotel, condo's and European piazza's. Consortium leader Wanda Dorosz said yesterday she is making excellent progress and is "cautiously optimistic". Meeting scheduled with Government for next week.
