Impaired driver four times over the limit

Four people appeared in Magistrates' Court on Tuesday accused of driving while over the legal drinking limit

Three of them pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, while the fourth denied the charge and will go to trial.

Brian Larzleer, 53, of Camp Road, Warwick, was stopped on Crow Lane, in Pembroke, on January 26, when he was more than four times over the alcohol limit.

He had 338ml of alcohol in 100mg of blood, when the legal limit is 80ml.

Mr. Wolffe said: "From the very high level of alcohol in his blood, it's obvious to us that this is one individual that should not have been driving his car."

And Mr. Wolffe said it was very fortunate that no one was injured by Larzleer's driving that night.

Larzleer said: "I agree with the learned gentleman. It's very fortunate that there was no accident. I'm definitely sorry. I shan't be back."

He was fined $1,000 and banned from the roads for a year.

Emanuel De Almeida Vicente, 32, of Upland Lane, Warwick, was stopped on February 3 on South Road in Paget, when he was twice the legal alcohol limit of 80 millilitres of alcohol in 100 milligrammes of blood.

Prosecutor Juan Wolffe said Police said they saw Vicente driving erratically, almost hitting a stone wall and pulled him over. Vicente apologised to the court and was fined $1,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for a year.

And Luis Carlos Cardoso Machado, 27, of St. Luke's Road, St. George's, was banned from driving all vehicles for two years after being caught drink driving for the second time in two years.

He was more than twice the legal limit when he was stopped on Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton Parish on February 2.

He was also fined $1,000.

Ricardo Lee Wilkinson, 47, of Ferry Road, St. George's, pleaded not guilty after being charged with driving while impaired. The court heard how he had also refused to give a breath sample after being stopped for earlier this year.

He was bailed for $1000 and will be tried on May 5.
