Island praised by US consul

America's Acting Consul General Karen Emmerson last night praised Bermuda's handling of yesterday's crisis which saw hundreds of unexpected arrivals.

And she said stranded Americans had remained calm and not flooded the Consulate's hotline - despite their desire for news.

She said: "We have been extremely impressed with the authorities here. They have found beds for everyone."

Ms. Emmerson said she expected the Consulate to remain closed today but it could be open tomorrow.

She said: "We will be in touch with Washington to make a decision. It's possible we will open on Thursday. It depends if there are any further attacks."

The consul hotline is 235-3828.
