Dry July has become a little wetter.

But with only 11 days left in the month, the July average rainfall seems a long way off.

Bermuda Weather Service meteorological technician Christa Gierlinger said the average was 4.94 inches. So far only 1.67 inches have been recorded at the Airport.

Yesterday's downpour improved the figures marginally. A few minutes before 6.30 a.m. .44 of an inch ? or 11.2 millimetres ? was recorded. However, western parishes, who have experienced more rain, were not included in that number.

Said Ms Gierlinger: "This makes it the second month in a row that we've had less than average rain fall."

With the speculation of rain for Cup Match Ms Gierlinger said that it was still too early to write July off.

At the Bermuda Weather Service the forecast only go about five days in advance.

"The weather can change just like that," said Ms Gierlinger.

The average rainfall for June is 5.03 inches and only .64 of an inch ? less than three quarters of an inch ? fell during that month.

Ms Gierlinger said weather was predicted through satellite imagery, which normally gave an accurate picture.
