Local honey, bananas, carrots ? they?re back!

The carrot crisis is over says Farmer?s Market organiser Frances Eddy who said much-missed local honey and bananas are also set to make a re-appearance on Saturday.

The Farmers Market will re-open for its fourth season at the Bull?s Head car park on Canal Road, Hamilton.

Ms Eddy said: ?After a year without honey and bananas due to Fabian locals will be delighted to have these popular items back again.

?Summer without carrots creates a real hunger for them this time of the year.?

She said the absence of fresh carrots in the summer is because their importation is banned to prevent invasion of the carrot rust fly while they are not grown locally because it is too hot. ?The long wait for fresh carrots is now over.

?Farmers market vendors promise a healthy supply of carrots, lettuce, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, sweet peppers, eggplant, pumpkin and beets, and greens on the opening day of the farmers market.?

For those who prefer to buy produce grown without chemicals and pesticides there will be eggs, chickens, and some vegetables, and bananas.

?We are looking for fishermen who would like to sell their catch at the market,? added Ms Eddy.

She said 16 vendors have signed up for the opening day where there would be items geared to the Christmas season.

Regular vendors will be back with fall baked goods and preserves, home-made cosmetic products, candles, vegetable and flowers seedlings and potted plants.

?The public is invited to come and stay a while on opening day and enjoy live entertainment.?

The market is open 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday until the end of June.

If anyone is interested in becoming a vendor call Frances Eddy at 238 0059. Table sharing is permitted.
