Man admits stealing newspapers

A man who was arrested for stealing 17 Royal Gazette newspapers one day and then stole 16 the next was given a six-month discharge in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Warren Bascome, 44, of Chapel Lane, St. George's, admitted stealing the newspapers.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill told the court that Police saw Bascome take the 17 newspapers worth $12.75 from outside of Robertson's Drug Store on York Street in St. George's on August 7. When Police stopped him, Bascome claimed that he had left money for the papers. Police checked and found that this was not true. He was arrested and taken to St. George's Police Station and released.

The next morning at 6.51 Police again spotted Bascome taking 16 newspapers from outside the same store. He was arrested again and detained.
