Beating up a man at a party cost a Pembroke man $1,000 in fines.

Damany Burchall, 23, of King Street, Pembroke admitted to unlawfully causing bodily harm to Jevon Joell.

The lashing happened at a private party on Court Street on April 25.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday Crown counsel Shakira Dill said that Burchall approached Mr. Joell from behind and punched him in the left jaw and then on the right jaw. When his victim fell to the ground, Burchall repeatedly kicked him.

Burchall later told Police he beat up Mr. Joell because he was not happy with the way he was treating an acquaintance of his. In court he admitted punching Mr. Joell but denied ever kicking him while he was down.

Ms Dill said: "Mr. Joell was bleeding from the mouth and took himself to King Edward VI Memorial Hospital where he need to have his jaw wired shut."

Mr. Joell had fractures to both sides of his jaw.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves fined Burchall $1,000.

Burchall said: "I tried to apologise to him (Joell) but he wasn't hearing it."
