A Pembroke man has appeared in court after he kicked a bike off its stand in Hamilton.

Teko Harvey was part of a group of men spotted by Police on early hours patrol on Front Street.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith said officers saw the defendant jumping on the backs of other people in the group.

He then ran up to a parked motorbike, near Cafe Cairo, and knocked it off its stand.

Harvey fled but was followed by Police along Parliament Street. When apprehended, Ms Smith he said Harvey said he would pay for the damage.

Shade Subair, for Harvey, said her client had no previous convictions.

Harvey, 20, of Valley View Lane, Pembroke, appeared in Magistrates Court yesterday and apologised. He said he had been drinking on the night of the offence.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner handed Harvey a one-year conditional discharge.

He told the defendant, who admitted the disorderly behaviour charge on November 4, that if he could not handle alcohol he should "leave it alone, or drink at home and fall down asleep".
