More details on temporary housing

Four Ministers met with residents last night to offer reassurances about plans to place temporary emergency housing at Morgan?s Point in Somerset early in the new year.

Housing Minister Lt. Col. David Burch, who last week announced the plan to place six prefabricated homes on a disused baseball field at the entrance to the former US Naval Station Annex, was amongst the Government representatives at a meeting held in the Oddfellows Hall in Somerset.

Around 30 residents attended the hour-and-a-half meeting to hear more details about the plan for the emergency housing and to ask questions.

One of those present was local resident Rupert Smith, who said: ?It was mostly the same information that was given out last week, with a little bit more detail. It was quite cordial and we were told the homes would likely be there for 30 months.?

Sen. Burch announced the exact location of the planned mini-community of prefab buildings to house the most needy families on the Government?s emergency housing list, at a press conference last Thursday.

There are currently no plans to build on the polluted land further out on the peninsula, which was vacated by the US military ten years ago.
