A motorcyclist was fighting for his life in hospital last night after his bike crashed into a traffic light on Crow Lane, Pembroke.

The man was heading south out of town when he lost control of his burgundy Honda Scoopy 125 near the junction with Corkscrew Hill just before 9 p.m. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A Police spokesman said at the scene that the cause was still being investigated.

The man was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where attempts were being made to identify him as The Royal Gazette went to press. The spokesman said he was in a critical condition.

He added: "The road was cordoned off in the specific area and traffic was re-routed.

Officers from the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene doing the requisite measurements and calculations to ascertain what took place."

Onlooker Pamela Crockwell said she heard a huge bang and rushed out of a nearby bus stop to see a man lying face down beside the bike.

Police ask witnesses to contact the traffic unit on 299-4264 or call the main Police number of 295-0011.
