MPs to debate Police complaints legislation

MPs will today discuss legislation concerning the Police Complaints Authority Amendment Act in the last session of the House of Assembly before the summer recess begins.

Minister of Labour, Home Affairs, and Public Safety Randy Horton will read ?Police Complaints Authority Amendment Act 2005? for a second time. Mr. Horton is also due to move a motion for the House to take note of the Annual Reports of the Police Complaints Authority of Bermuda for the periods of October 2002 ? May 2003 and June 2003 ? December 2004.

The Opposition United Bermuda Party will tackle several motions including one by Shadow Minister of Housing Wayne Furbert on the deterioration of the quality of life for Bermudians under the current Government especially in the areas of crime, housing, and employment. Other take note motions include one to be moved by Mr. Jon Brunson on the need for Government to develop a National Sports Agenda to enhance sport in Bermuda.

The last take note motion will be put forward by Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons, who will propose that the Report on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Public Accounts for the Financial Year ending in March 31, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 together with the response on the report be presented by the Minister of Finance on June 24.
