MSA student apologises for bomb threat
A prank could have cost a Mount Saint Agnes Academy student her spot at the school next September. MSA principal Sister Judith Marie Rollo has taken steps to deal with a high school student who asked a friend to call in a bomb threat to the school earlier this month. MSA was evacuated for several hours during the morning session of classes after a claim that there were six pipe bombs planted. The 600 students were forced to abandon the building after a secretary received the call.
Yesterday Sister Judith told the student was suspended for the remainder of the year after confessing to the prank but will return to sit her final exams. The student apologised to the entire student body last week at an assembly with her father present.
?It was a short apology, she apologised for disrupting the school day. I think she was thinking of it as something to do for fun without thinking of the incredible consequences of her actions. It?s the kind of stupid thing a teenager does without thinking.?
A male friend of the student is understood to have made the call. The school secretary said the voice over the phone line was muffled male voice which appeared to come from a telephone booth.?
?We don?t know who he is,? said Sister Judith. ?At this point we understand there is an ongoing investigation with Police.?
She said it is certain whether or not the student would return to the school in September.
The students, including those from the MSA nursery, were forced to gather in Victoria Park until 1.40 p.m.
Police blocked off Dundonald Street, Elliott Street and Washington Street North while a bomb disposal team searched the building before giving the all-clear.
