Ninth person facing charges in Wellington Oval violence

A ninth person is due to be charged today in connection with last month's violence at Wellington Oval.

Tahir Nesta Bascome, 22, of Dunscombe Road, Warwick, appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday but the Crown asked for time to receive further instructions on his charges.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke asked Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves to remand Bascome in custody until later yesterday afternoon to give her time to get further instruction from her chambers on amending the charge.

Mr. Greaves remanded Bascome in custody until today when the Crown should have the charge amended and ready to read to him.

The Crown said yesterday that they want to charge Bascome with attempted murder and possession of a machete in a public place in a manner to cause terror.

The alleged incident happened on April 4 at Wellington Oval.

Ed Bailey represents Bascome who is set to be formerly charged today.
